How to find new levels of motivation — without doing anything at all
What happens when you let all of it go? Your habits, your goals, your dreams and your aspirations…
This Christmas and New Years break I did something I’ve never done before. I let it all go. I usually have a bunch of goals, intentions and a powerful morning routine, I move, I meditate, I journal, I learn, I dance, I reflect, I plan…it has helped me cultivate a deep sense of satisfaction, resilience, peace and growth, for so many years. I’ve experimented with different variations, and I love it.
But this break I asked a simple question, what would happen if I let it all just be, the way it is…? Doing none of it.
Here’s what happened…
😴 I slept a lot, more than I ever have
🌟I stayed present in every moment, realising how much my daily practice of gratitude had become a part of how I see the world.
🌿 I spent time in nature, with no destination or goal
🎥 I binged on Pixar movies (soul is my new favourite)
…and I took everyday as it came, soaked it all in, reminding myself that there’s absolutely nothing I need to do or nowhere to be.
It took a lot of reminders, I noticed how much of my drive happens by default, in my subconscious.
I felt guilty at times, for not using this time in a more productive way, learning a new skill, exercise routine or mindhack.
I realised that when you operate in a framework of constant performance and growth the most radical and challenging thing you can do is NOTHING.
I moved into 2021 with a whole new level of trust, in all that I am and all that I know. Trust in the season of life I am in right now. I came to realise the parts of my routine that I really missed, like meditation and journaling. It awakened a whole new excitement for these habits in my life.
I felt like I walked into 2021 with a blank sheet, ready to add new colours, adventures and intentions that truly resonates with me.
If you are looking to find more clarity and truly get into alignment so you can create from an authentic and empowered place, drop it all, let it go, see what you miss and why.
Here is to 2021, full of hope, opportunities and love.
